=============================================================
With the exception of large, ornate rugs specially made for monasteries or high-ranking nobles, Tibetan carpets were traditionally utilitarian household items. They were small (no more than 3' x 6'), and they were usually used as mats to sleep or sit on, rather than to cover floors or decorate walls. The most common Tibetan rugs, known as khaden, were woolen sleeping carpets.
Genuine Antique Oriental rugs are fundamentally different from those that are machine-made and mass-produced in factories, as each piece is individually hand-made and therefore unique! Irregularities in form, colour or materials used, or if it has some repairs, only adds to its individual character, so that each rug is, essentially, a collector's piece in the making and no cause for complain.
