This ancient bronze kohl flask was used traditionally as a make-up for the eyes ( Kohl ) and it was filled with kohl ( eyeliner ). The idea was to dip a hardened reed with a flattened end that formed a brush-like applicator into the black eye liner ( kohl ) which was then used to outline the eyes.
